0x0000007E after XP an SP2 or SP3 upgrade on AMD PC

Mesh computers seem to have made their AMD PC's using Intel CPU based Sysprep'ed images. Customer today with a Mesh PC who finally upgraded to Windows Service Pack 2 got this message:-
A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer...

Error 80070057 parsing input - illegal syntax?

Nasty error. First time I've seen a serious Active Directory error in years.

"When you start your domain controller, the screen may go blank, and you may receive the following error message:
LSASS.EXE - System Error, security accounts manager initialization failed because of the following error:
Directory Services cannot start. Error status 0xc00002e1.
Please click OK to shutdown this system and reboot into directory services restore mode, check the event log for more detailed information."

Access 2003: Unsafe Expressions are not blocked

When you open an Access 2003 database, you get 3 annoying errors.

  • Security Warning: Unsafe expressions are not blocked Do you want to block unsafe expressions?
  • A Microsoft Jet 4.0 Service Pack warning
  • Then another "Security Warning"

To fix this, you can lower your Access security settings manually, or simply use this registry entry to do it for you.

Exporting Outlook Account settings

If you're using POP or IMAP in Outlook, it's found that occasionally profiles and settings go a little wonky or software hooking into Outlook won't work any more (we've found that early Blackberry Desktop software can crash when you sychronise and you need to delete and recreate your profile to fix it)

You may want to move your mail settings to a new PC, or perhaps you need to backup of your mail settings for another reason. Either way, here are various methods with which to back up your Outlook Profile settings.
