AOL Email test relays

Sending email to AOL customers can be a tricky business. Especially if you are say running your own mail server on an ISP connection like a lot of small businesses do, typically with Exchange on Windows 2003 Small Business Server.

AOL have given one minor tool to help you avoid the bouncebacks, (typically by changing your configuration so your email is sent through another SMTP 'smarthost' like an ISP's SMTP server)

TightVNC and NOD32

After the virus signature database update on 25th April NOD32 started to detect TightVNC (usually at c:\Program Files\TightVNC\WinVNC.exe) and an associated .dll as a threat.

By way of a solution disable 'Potentially Dangerous Applications' in the NOD32 Control Center under AMON > Setup > Options

There is a Flash demonstration for it here - Show Me

Reincarnation of Phobos

I have been setting up the reincarnation of Phobos as a W2k3 server.

Friday:
Install went ok.
Couldn't RDP to it for a while there, then checked the System Properties and enabled RDP Access :D
Set up the printer.
Set up an _template user with fields with %username% not %user% makes it nice when creating new users :)
Created folders for shares.

Linksys Wireless Routers

Loss of Pass Phrase

When you enter a passphrase into the wireless setup it generates a WEP key from it, it then seems to lose all trace of the passphrase, leaving you with only the WEP key . This has caused problems for connecting people twice now as the passphrase does not seem to work anymore, you have to use the WEP key.

Seems a bit pointless to have the passphrase in the first place, but there you go.
