Dell laptop battery safety recall

Dell is recalling 4.1m laptop batteries following reports of its laptops overheating and bursting into flames.

It has issued the biggest recall in computer history following video footage of one of its laptops on fire.

There have only been six instances and no-one has yet been hurt, but Dell are erring on the side of safety and issuing the recall of the batteries - made by Sony Energy Devices.

The recall involves 18 percent of Dells 22 million notebooks sold between 1st April 2004 and 18th July 2006.

We recommend all Dell laptop customers check whether their battery is affected on this website.

Software Licensing

We still occasionally get a business asking us to install software from existing CD's onto new machines without considering or simply ignoring license implications.

Software licensing is a very important issue today and companies need to understand how software licenses work as they are not as simple as buying a lawn-mower or a loaf of bread. runPCrun will not install software if we consider it unlicensed, so please do not ask us to do so.

My USB Flash drive as of August 2006

UPDATE TO THIS ARTICLE CAN BE FOUND HERE - Freeware Engineers Toolkit

This is a list of software that I carry on my portable thumbdrive (1Gb). Almost all of it is Freeware (any exceptions are noted) and most of it is Open Source too.

The flashkey has an autorun.inf to start PStart on double click, or on the right click menu either open explorer or mount a Truecrypt archive (to protect customer data). Lastly the key is bootable with Acronis True Image V9

Buying an OSIM Massage Chair in the UK - my experience

Update: Please note the new OSIM UK store, run by Francis Leow of FK Marketing (Company Registration No. 05697926) can be found at http://www.osim.com/UK/ and is not related to this store at Bluewater or the company "Indigo Retail Ltd" (Company Registration No. 04254170 - formerly OSIM (UK) Ltd) - which this article concerns.
_______________________________________________________________________

I walked into an OSIM UK store in Bluewater on 4th June 2006.(their website - www.osim-health.co.uk went down shortly before this article was written) I'd saved up long and hard to buy one of their OSIM iSymphonic Massage chairs. I fell in love with these chairs in Singapore 5 years ago and I've been saving up for one over the last year to get one. This chair is -in my opinion- the best massage chair available. It measures you then massages your neck, back and legs and simply turns you into a floppy mess 15 minutes later!

Remove the default wallpaper (for Dell server RDP access)

We recommend Dell servers to our clients. However for some bizarre reason they set the default wallpaper to their own high colour Dell wallpaper that is highly graded.

Unfortunately this has the side effect of making it very slow to access the server via RDP when connecting, as it has to transmit this wallpaper even when the "Wallpaper" option is switched off in the RDP client.
